Neva Hinsey is a choreographer, teacher, and dancer based out of Madison, Wisconsin. She has spent time within the studio, high school, and college dance scenes. This well-rounded background has given way to her unique style. From her choreography, you can expect intriguing themes with emotional depth that give way to entrancing visuals built on strong foundational technique.
Neva began dancing when she was very young and quickly joined the competitive team at Move Out Loud. There, she trained in hip hop, contemporary, jazz, lyrical, and ballet; won various awards and high placements for performances and choreography; and began assisting classes. During her four years on the Middleton High School Dance Team, she trained in pom, served as a member of the choreography committee, earned multiple high placements, and was a two time all-state dancer with her self-choreographed solos. While studying Kinesiology and Dance at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Neva learned more about modern technique, dance education, and how to use an understanding of anatomy and physiology to maintain technique while supporting dancer’s physical health.
Neva began choreographing at fifteen and has progressively stepped into leadership and teaching roles ever since. In 2023, she became a lead hip hop and jazz teacher at Move Out Loud. In 2024, she became the assistant coach of the Middleton High School dance team, as well as a teacher for the University of Wisconsin Dance Exchange which provides dance opportunities to the public schools in the wider Madison area. Through TRIBE 99, she hopes to share her teaching and choreography with even more teams and communities. Neva’s holistic approach pushes not just technique but also artistry because she believes that the best dances are the ones that make you feel something. This is why she always aims to stretch her creativity and the artistic expression of each dancer to a new level.
Neva uses her multifaceted training to develop choreography with a plethora of influences and to share what she knows about the interconnectedness of dance styles. Drawing on her background in dance education, she aims to teach with a student-focused lens, providing support to each unique individual. Her love for dance—and every aspect of it—makes way for a dedicated leader who can provide unique choreography, foundational technique, and artistry that draws from within.
